WHAT WE HANDLE

Customs Regulations

Relocating to Suriname (Overseas Removals)

+

Moving your personal effects and household goods to Suriname (motor vehicles excluded)? You may qualify for an exemption of import duty.

Required Documents
  1. Residence permit, issued by the Ministry of Justice and Police
  2. Certificate of registration, issued by the Central Registration Office (C.B.B.)
  3. Your passport with registration stamps
Good to Know

A residence permit can take several weeks to months — start your application as early as possible. Storage and port fees are charged once your shipment arrives in Paramaribo.

If exemption isn't granted, import duty on new goods ranges between 35 – 40% of the C.I.F. value. Diplomatic status holders are exempt from import duty entirely.

Relocating Out of Suriname

+

Moving your household effects out of Suriname (motor vehicles excluded)? You may also qualify for an exemption of export duty.

Required Documents
  1. Copy of your passport
  2. Certificate of removal from the register (C.B.B.)
  3. Packing list of your effects
  4. Certificate of value
Good to Know

If your name isn't removed from the register, export duty of 0.6% of the total value of your belongings will apply.

Motor Vehicles (Import & Export)

+

Import of passenger cars and motorcycles older than 5 years is not allowed, and buses older than 8 years are prohibited. An exemption from the Ministry of Trade and Industry can be requested for older vehicles — the vehicle may not ship until this is granted.

  2. Certificate of value or invoice (for new vehicles)
  3. Registration certificate (registered to your name for 6+ months)
  4. Certificate of insurance
  5. Copy of your passport
  6. Copy of your driver's license
  7. Form of proxy to obtain clearance
Import Duty

Customs always imposes import duty on vehicles — even as part of a relocation. Only diplomatic status holders may apply for exemption.

Export tax is 0.6% of the vehicle's value. We arrange the Customs inspection appointment; the vehicle is sealed in the container immediately after. We strongly recommend checking the import rules of your destination country in advance.

Gift Parcels

+

Provisions, household articles, clothes, shoes and/or used bicycles for personal use are exempt from import duty, provided the total value doesn't exceed €100 (or the foreign-currency equivalent).

If Customs inspection shows the value exceeds €100, import tax of 20% of the parcel's contents applies. All gift parcels — incoming and outgoing — are inspected, and ID is required both when sending and collecting.

Each consignee/consignor is limited to 2 packages per shipment. Note: fish, meat and/or wood may require special permits.

All goods outside the gift-parcel category must be formally cleared via the 'Enig Document', plus any required certificates of origin or permits.
